Cop from the past

Series Cop from the past — 1 season, 9 episode

Description:

Story

Police captain Oleg Dolin awakens after spending two decades in a coma, returning to a country and a profession that have changed beyond recognition. The world of the 1990s has given way to smartphones, digital information and new methods of policing, while the people closest to Oleg have built lives without him. His daughter is now an adult, former colleagues have moved on, and the family he remembers belongs to the past.

As Oleg tries to find his place in the modern police service, every routine task becomes a test of adaptability. The episode follows his uneasy return to duty, the gap between his old instincts and contemporary procedures, and the personal doubts that surface when he attempts to rebuild trust at home. Crime cases bring the series' comic energy, while Oleg's struggle to understand the present gives the story its more thoughtful edge.

Overview

Cop from the Past is a Ukrainian crime comedy directed by Oleg Borschevsky. Its premise combines police investigations with the everyday friction created when a man shaped by another era is forced to navigate a very different society. Oleg's experience remains valuable, yet the tools, habits and expectations surrounding law enforcement have moved forward without him.

The series balances workplace conflict with family drama. Oleg must learn how to operate among younger colleagues, communicate through unfamiliar technology and accept that affection cannot simply be recovered where time has taken it away. The tone moves between investigation and character-driven humor, keeping the focus on the captain's attempt to begin again while carrying the weight of his first life in the police.

Cast and Characters

Dmitry Surzhykov leads the cast as Oleg Dolin, a police captain whose return to active service places him between two eras. His character combines professional determination with the vulnerability of someone rebuilding ordinary connections after years of absence.

Olga Grishina, Sergey Derevyanko, Daryna Trehubova and Mykhailo Kryshtal complete the principal ensemble. Together, the performers represent the colleagues, relatives and other people who shape Oleg's difficult adjustment to modern life. Their relationships give the crime storyline a personal dimension and create room for the dry, situational comedy at the heart of the series.
