Story
Police captain Oleg Dolin awakens from a coma after two decades and finds himself in a country that has moved far beyond the world he remembers. The streets, the police service and the methods used to fight crime have all changed. Information now travels through gadgets and digital systems, while the instincts that once guided Oleg through the turbulent 1990s belong to another era.
Returning to law enforcement gives Oleg a chance to reclaim the life that was interrupted so abruptly. His daughter has grown up, former colleagues have built families of their own, and the people he once knew have continued living without him. As he learns to work within a transformed police force, Oleg must also face the personal distance created by his long absence. The season combines crime investigations with comedy and a human story about adapting to a new time while trying to understand what remains familiar.
Overview
Cop from the Past is a Ukrainian crime comedy directed by Oleg Borschevsky. Its premise brings together two contrasting worlds: the direct, instinctive approach of a police captain shaped by the 1990s and the technology-driven reality of modern law enforcement. The resulting situations carry both investigative tension and understated humor, as Oleg encounters procedures, devices and social habits that were unimaginable during his first career.
The series also gives considerable space to the consequences of lost time. Oleg returns to a family he barely recognizes and a professional environment that has changed without him. His attempt to resume police work becomes a broader effort to rebuild trust, find a place in the present and decide how much of his former identity can survive in a different life.
Cast and Characters
Dmitry Surzhykov leads the cast as the police captain at the center of the story, a man whose return to active service places him between two generations of policing. Olga Grishina, Sergey Derevyanko, Daryna Trehubova and Mykhailo Kryshtal appear alongside him, representing the colleagues, family members and people connected to Oleg's new chapter.
The ensemble supports the series' balance of police cases, family tension and character-based comedy. Their relationships help reveal the contrast between Oleg's memories of the past and the unfamiliar world awaiting him after his long recovery.
