Miranda dates a lawyer whose charm is undercut by his condescending and abusive behavior. Charlotte embraces a freewheeling approach to dating, though things get complicated when she books two dates with different men on the same night. Meanwhile, Samantha overhears a couple's passionate noises through the wall of the next apartment and decides to outdo them in her own bold style.

Overview

This is episode 14 of the second season of Sex and the City. Set within New York's lively social scene, it blends romantic comedy with sharper observations about dating, friendship and personal boundaries. Each storyline approaches intimacy from a different angle: Carrie's attempt to define a casual relationship, Miranda's troubling date, Charlotte's scheduling mishap and Samantha's playful competitiveness.

The series is a comedy-drama about four single friends in their late thirties, based on Candace Bushnell's bestselling book. Their conversations about careers, desire and relationships feed Carrie's column, while their contrasting personalities create a steady balance of wit, candor and emotional tension. Season 2 opens with Carrie dating again after her break-up with Mr. Big, while her friends continue to supply material for her writing.

Cast and Characters

Sarah Jessica Parker leads the ensemble as Carrie, a writer whose personal experiences shape the stories she explores in her column. Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis play Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte, Carrie's closest friends, each with a distinct attitude toward love, sex and independence. Chris Noth plays Mr. Big, a significant figure in Carrie's romantic life across the series.

The series' directors include Allen Coulter and Michael Patrick King. The show relies on the chemistry among its four central performers and the sharply different ways their characters respond to modern relationships.
