Beartown

Series Beartown — 1 season, 1 episode

Description:

Story

Peter Andersson arrives in Beartown with his family after retiring from professional hockey, hoping to help revive a struggling community and begin a new chapter. The club has promised him an elite squad, yet the reality falls far short of expectations. Faced with limited talent and mounting pressure, Peter turns his attention to the junior team, where the town’s hopes are concentrated.

The decision quickly unsettles Beartown’s fragile balance. Hockey carries the ambitions of local families, sponsors, and officials, so any change to the club’s direction becomes a matter of public concern. Peter’s work also brings him back into contact with Mats, the father of gifted young player Kevin Erdahl. Their difficult history gives the sporting conflict a deeply personal edge, while Kevin’s place at the centre of the team makes him impossible for Peter to ignore.

Overview

Beartown is a Swedish drama set in a small community where ice hockey represents far more than a game. The junior programme has become a symbol of pride and a possible route toward a more secure future, placing enormous expectations on teenagers still learning how to handle their own choices.

Directed by Peter Grönlund, the series examines loyalty, ambition, family tension, and the cost of turning young athletes into the guardians of an entire town’s hopes. The opening episode establishes a pressured environment in which professional experience meets local resistance, and personal history repeatedly complicates decisions that should belong to the rink.

Cast and Characters

Peter Andersson leads the story as a recently retired player taking on responsibility for Beartown’s hockey programme. His family accompanies him to the town, where the promise of a fresh start soon gives way to difficult professional and personal tensions. Kevin Erdahl is the junior team’s standout player, while his father, Mats, is closely connected to the conflict surrounding Peter’s return and the club’s future.

The cast features Miriam Ingrid, Oliver Dufåker, Otto Fahlgren, Ulf Stenberg, and Aliette Opheim. Together, the ensemble brings focus to the young players, their families, and the adults whose decisions shape the community around them.
