Overview

This is the eighth episode of the second season of Game of Thrones, set amid the continuing conflict among the noble families of Westeros. It combines political drama, adventure, and science-fiction elements within a sprawling series about power, allegiance, and endurance. The Lannister hold on the Iron Throne faces pressure from several directions, while the lands beyond the Wall introduce threats that reach beyond the immediate struggle for the crown.

The episode moves between battle preparations, uneasy captivity, and tense decisions made far from the centers of power. Its parallel storylines give the narrative a broad scope, connecting the fate of commanders, prisoners, fugitives, and those attempting to defend their homes. The series is a co-production between Great Britain and the United States, and its directors include Brian Kirk, Alan Taylor, and Daniel Minahan.
