Story
Carrie takes a teaching job at The Learning Annex, but her course on how to find love turns out to be about as successful as her own romantic life. Meanwhile, Miranda starts dating one of Carrie’s former boyfriends, a man the friends know by an unflattering nickname, after meeting him at the funeral of a blind date she never actually met. Charlotte grows sexually frustrated in her relationship with Trey, and Samantha ends up in a heated argument with Charlotte over her attitude toward sex.
Overview
This episode from the third season brings the series’ signature blend of comedy, drama, and melodrama into the women’s personal and romantic lives. Carrie’s attempt to turn her relationship experience into practical advice creates an ironic backdrop for the tangled situations facing her friends. Miranda’s unexpected choice of partner raises questions about judgment and second chances, Charlotte’s storyline explores the strain that can enter a marriage, and Samantha’s clash with her friend exposes their sharply different attitudes toward intimacy.
Set against the social world of New York, the episode keeps its focus on friendship, desire, embarrassment, and the gap between the advice people give and the choices they make themselves. The tone remains frank and conversational, with awkward situations giving way to quick exchanges and personal honesty.
Cast and Characters
The series is led by Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis, with Chris Noth among its principal cast. The episode centers on Carrie, who presents herself as an authority on love; Miranda, who enters a surprising relationship; Charlotte, who faces dissatisfaction in her marriage to Trey; and Samantha, who defends her direct approach to sex and relationships.
The characters’ contrasting expectations drive the episode’s main tension. Carrie’s professional advice, Miranda’s romantic choice, Charlotte’s private frustration, and Samantha’s outspoken perspective put the friendship under pressure while keeping the conversation lively and personal.
