Description:

Story

Carrie Bradshaw begins to question the balance of her relationship with Mr. Big after an introduction to his mother leaves her feeling reduced to the role of “a friend.” As she considers what their connection truly means, the romantic uncertainties surrounding her circle of friends take several different forms. Miranda goes on a date with an ambitious playwright whose strict Catholic beliefs create an immediate tension, while Samantha encounters a man who appears to possess all the qualities she has been looking for. Charlotte, meanwhile, turns to psychic readings in search of reassurance about her chances of finding marriage and lasting love.

Overview

Set against New York’s singles scene, Sex and the City follows writer Carrie Bradshaw as she turns the experiences of her friends and her own romantic life into material for her newspaper column. The series blends comedy, drama and melodrama while examining dating, intimacy, friendship and the expectations placed on people searching for a partner.

This episode brings those themes into especially personal territory. Carrie’s doubts about Mr. Big sit alongside Miranda’s clash of values, Samantha’s demanding approach to romance and Charlotte’s hopeful search for certainty. Their contrasting perspectives give the story an energetic ensemble rhythm, with witty observations balanced by moments of vulnerability. The first season credits Allen Coulter and Michael Patrick King among its directors.
