Soviet composer. Honored Artist of the RSFSR (05.31.1963). Secretary of the Union of Composers of the USSR (1951-1956), director of the Bolshoi Theater (1973-1975). The songs of Molchanov “Here's the soldiers coming,” “And I love a married man,” “Heart, be silent.” Were widely popular. He wrote music for performances (over 30): "Griboedov" (1951) - the Moscow Stanislavsky Drama Theater; “Last Stop” (1957) - CTSA; "Noble Nest" (1957), Golden Carriage (1957), Mary Stuart by F. Schiller (1957), Three Fat Men Yu. K. Olesha (1961), "Dear Liar" (1962), Cola Bryunon R. Rollan (1972) - Moscow Art Theater and others.
