Clifford Smith (born April 1, 1971 in Staten Island, NY), better known by the pseudonym Method Man or Meth, is an American hip-hop artist, producer, actor, and member of the hip-hop band Wu-Tang Clan. He took his stage name from the 1979 film Fearless Young Boxer, also known as Methodist. He is half the rap duo Method Man & Redman along with the same rapper Redman. He won a Grammy for the best rap performance of a duet or band for "I Will Be With You / You Are All I Need to Be A Time" with Mary J. Blige. He appeared in the films Belly, How High, Garden State, as well as in a small role in The Wackness. On television, he and hip-hop companion Redman starred in Fox & Red's short sitcom Sitcom, and he had a regular role as Calvin "Cheese" Wagstaff in the famous HBO series The Wire.
