Story
After a pandemic devastates the world’s population, a solitary man makes his home in a Colorado airplane hangar. His closest companions are his dog and a dour gunman he has befriended. Their isolated routine is disrupted when a mysterious radio transmission reaches the man during a flight in his aging Cessna. The signal raises a pressing question: who sent it, and where did it originate? Following the sound leads the men away from the fragile security of their shelter and into a tense search through a landscape shaped by loss, uncertainty, and suspicion.
Blending action, fantasy, and thriller elements, The Dog Stars explores survival in a world where human connection has become as rare as reliable information. The story keeps its focus on the bond between a man, his dog, and an armed companion whose motives are difficult to read. The radio mystery provides the film’s central drive, while the Colorado setting adds a stark, isolated atmosphere. Ridley Scott directs this American production, which places questions of trust, loyalty, and endurance at the heart of its post-pandemic suspense.
Overview
The Dog Stars presents a stripped-back survival thriller built around solitude and discovery. The hangar serves as a precarious refuge, while the old Cessna gives its pilot a way to scan the surrounding world from above. A mysterious signal coming through the radio introduces a thread of possibility, but pursuing it may expose the characters to dangers they cannot measure from a distance. The film’s genre blend supports a story that moves between physical peril, speculative tension, and the emotional pressure of living with very few allies.
Cast and Characters
Jacob Elordi leads the cast as the isolated survivor at the center of the story. Margaret Qualley, Josh Brolin, Guy Pearce, and Allison Janney also appear in the ensemble. The character dynamics are shaped by a harsh new reality: a man who relies on his dog, a dour gunman whose presence brings both protection and tension, and a transmission that challenges the limits of their secluded existence.
Directed by Ridley Scott, the film combines a focused survival premise with a search for a source that could change the characters’ understanding of the world beyond their hangar.
