Andrey Smirnov

Director, screenwriter, actor. The son of Sergei Smirnov, the author of books about the defenders of the Brest Fortress and the leading popular on Soviet television program "Feat". In 1962 he graduated from VGIK (directing department, workshop of M. Romm). He made his debut with the war film “The Spit of the Earth” (1964, together with B. Yashin) according to the same name by G.Ya. Baklanov. The real event in the Soviet cinema was his film “Belarusian Station” (1971). After his third film, "Faithfully and Truthfully" (1980), he retired from directing and worked mainly as a screenwriter and playwright. The play "My beloved ones" in 1985 was staged by the Moscow Theater of Satire. He also acted as the author of a number of plots in film magazines "Wick". During the years of perestroika, he was actively involved in social activities. Together with Elem Klimov from 1986 to 1989 he headed the Union of Cinematographers.
