Semyon Sokolovsky

Honored Artist of the RSFSR (08/29/1961). People's Artist of the RSFSR (07/11/1973). His childhood and youth were spent in Donetsk. Reaching the age of eighteen, in 1939 he entered the acting faculty of the Moscow City Theater School. In 1942, the Krasnopresnensky District Komsomol Committee was mobilized for urgent evacuation of equipment from the 21st Aviation Plant in Fili, and then, as part of a volunteer Komsomol detachment, was sent to build defensive installations in the town of Yelnya near Smolensk. In 1942-1943, while continuing his studies, he worked in Moscow as part of a front-line theatrical brigade, took part in servicing existing army units and the population of Moscow. After graduating from college in 1943, he was admitted to the Moscow Theater of the Lenin Komsomol. Since 1945 - in the Moscow Drama Theater (since 1968 - Theater on Malaya Bronnaya). For five years, he transferred to Yury Zavadsky at the Mossovet Theater. In the cinema since 1953, the first role - Hamza in Sergei Yutkevich’s film “The Great Warrior of Albania Scanderbeg”. In 1990 he retired. He spent the last years of his life in the Moscow House of Veterans of the scene in Matveyevskiy, where he died on September 28, 1995. Buried at the Donskoy Cemetery of Moscow.
