Story
Pirates of the Mediterranean examines a little-known chapter of European history, tracing the connection between piracy, slavery, and the struggle for power across the Mediterranean. The documentary turns its attention to human trafficking that operated within legal frameworks and served the ambitions of those seeking influence and personal wealth. Rather than presenting piracy as a world of isolated outlaws, the film considers the systems that allowed exploitation to become an instrument of authority and enrichment.
Its subject reaches beyond maritime adventure, focusing on the human cost of practices shaped by law and political ambition. The Mediterranean emerges as the setting for a history in which violence, commerce, and power were closely connected.
