Story
A young couple sets out on a van life adventure, expecting the open road to bring freedom and shared memories. Their journey takes a terrifying turn when they witness a gruesome accident on the highway. After leaving the scene, they discover that something has followed them. A demonic presence known as the Passenger begins pursuing the couple with relentless purpose, turning their vehicle and the road ahead into a confined nightmare. As the threat closes in, they must face a force determined to claim them both.
Blending horror with thriller tension, the film builds its suspense around isolation, pursuit, and the frightening uncertainty of what may be hiding just beyond the next stretch of road. The couple's attempt to escape becomes a struggle for survival, with every mile carrying the possibility of another encounter with the presence that has marked them.
Overview
Passenger is a US horror thriller directed by André Øvredal. The story places an intimate relationship against a stark road setting, where the apparent freedom of life on the move gives way to fear and entrapment. A single traumatic encounter transforms an ordinary journey into a fight against a supernatural adversary that refuses to let its victims go.
The film draws its tension from the contrast between the couple's mobile lifestyle and the Passenger's persistent pursuit. The highway offers distance, yet no real escape, while the van becomes both shelter and a place where danger can reach them. With its dark supernatural premise and claustrophobic survival stakes, the film is suited to viewers seeking a horror story driven by menace, momentum, and an escalating sense of dread.
