The Dam

Movie The Dam (2025)

Description:

Story

After the destruction of the Kakhovka Dam, a Ukrainian military squad enters the exposed reservoir and uncovers a secret Soviet bunker. Led by a soldier known by the codename Mara, the group finds evidence of Cold War experiments conducted on human beings. The facility still holds the remains of Soviet soldiers transformed by those experiments, and the discovery soon turns into a fight for survival.

Trapped beneath the reservoir, the soldiers face an enemy that carries the legacy of a buried era. Their escape depends on courage, discipline, and their ability to rely on one another while fear and internal conflict threaten to divide the group. Blending action, horror, and thriller elements, The Dam builds its tension around a hostile underground environment, a terrifying secret, and the pressure placed on people forced to confront both external danger and their own doubts.

Overview

Directed by Oleksii Taranenko, this Ukrainian action horror thriller draws its premise from the aftermath of a real catastrophe and places its characters inside a stark survival scenario. The dried-up reservoir becomes the gateway to a sealed military site where the past has remained dangerously intact. The bunker setting gives the story a claustrophobic atmosphere, while the squad's disagreements add a human dimension to the escalating threat.

The film combines combat-driven urgency with elements of Soviet-era science fiction and undead horror. Its focus remains on the soldiers' struggle to preserve trust under extreme pressure, as every discovery inside the bunker brings them closer to a danger that has been hidden for decades.

Cast and Characters

Marina Koshkina, Oleksandr Yatsentiuk, Dmytro Pavko, Volodymyr Rashchuk, and Mikhail Dziuba lead the cast as members of the Ukrainian military unit. The squad is commanded by Mara, a battle-hardened figure whose authority is tested by the bunker's horrors and by tensions within the group. Together, the soldiers form a conflicted ensemble, with survival depending on cooperation as much as on their ability to face the creatures left behind by the Soviet experiments.
