Abigail

Movie Abigail (2024)

Description:

Story

A group of criminals takes on what appears to be a lucrative kidnapping: abducting Abigail, the young ballerina daughter of a powerful underworld figure. They carry their captive to an isolated mansion, expecting a quiet hideout where they can wait for their demands to be met. The secluded estate soon becomes a trap, cutting the kidnappers off from the outside world and placing them in close quarters with the girl they believe they can control.

As the night unfolds, the balance of power inside the mansion begins to shift. Suspicion spreads through the group, old instincts sharpen, and every room seems to conceal another threat. Abigail combines the closed-setting tension of a hostage thriller with the violent uncertainty of horror, keeping the nature of the danger at the center of its intrigue.

Overview

Directed by Tyler Gillett, Abigail is an American horror thriller built around a tightly contained premise and a volatile ensemble. The mansion provides a claustrophobic setting where criminal ambition collides with fear, mistrust, and the consequences of underestimating a seemingly vulnerable captive.

The film draws its tension from the contrast between the polished world suggested by Abigail's life as a ballerina and the brutal circumstances surrounding her abduction. Rather than offering the kidnappers a straightforward escape plan, the story places them in an increasingly dangerous struggle for survival. The result is a dark, suspenseful watch with a strong emphasis on shifting control, confined spaces, and the peril hidden behind appearances.

Cast and Characters

The ensemble features Kevin Durand, Matthew Goode, Giancarlo Esposito, Dan Stevens, and Kathryn Newton. Together, they form the criminal group and the people drawn into Abigail's captivity, creating a range of competing personalities within the mansion.

At the center of the story stands Abigail, a young ballerina whose kidnapping sets the plot in motion. Around her, the members of the criminal crew must contend with their own uncertainty as the assignment becomes far more dangerous than expected. Their changing relationships provide the human tension that drives the film alongside its horror elements.
