Movie Drive-Away Dolls (2024)

Story

Jamie is a spirited woman trying to recover from yet another breakup, while her reserved friend Marian could use a little more spontaneity in her life. Hoping to leave their troubles behind, the pair set out on an unexpected road trip to Tallahassee. Their plans take a sharp turn when they become entangled with a band of bungling criminals, drawing the friends into a messy adventure filled with bad decisions, uneasy alliances, and escalating complications.

Drive-Away Dolls blends crime and comedy through a fast-moving journey where a search for freedom collides with an errand gone wrong. The contrast between Jamie's impulsive energy and Marian's cautious nature gives the story its central rhythm, while the criminal subplot keeps the trip unpredictable. The film maintains a playful, offbeat tone as its unlikely travelers try to make sense of a situation far beyond the simple getaway they had imagined.

Overview

Drive-Away Dolls is a crime comedy produced in the United States and Great Britain. Its compact road-trip setup brings together friendship, romantic frustration, and accidental involvement in criminal schemes. The story moves between personal upheaval and comic danger, following two women whose very different temperaments are tested by circumstances they never intended to encounter.

The film's appeal rests on the friction between a carefree protagonist and a more restrained companion. Their journey creates room for sharp contrasts, awkward encounters, and the kind of escalating disorder that can turn an ordinary escape into a memorable detour. The tone remains lively and irreverent while the characters search for a way through the trouble surrounding them.

Cast and Characters

Margaret Qualley and Geraldine Viswanathan lead the film as Jamie and Marian, the friends at the center of the road trip. Jamie approaches the journey with restless optimism after a difficult breakup, whereas Marian brings a quieter, more cautious presence to their partnership.

Joey Slotnick, Bill Camp, and Miley Cyrus also appear in the cast, adding to the ensemble surrounding the pair. Together, the performers populate a world of odd encounters and inept criminal activity, where every new connection threatens to complicate the friends' attempt to reach Tallahassee.
