Story
Imprisoned in a harsh German prisoner-of-war camp, American Colonel William McNamara remains the senior-ranking officer among his fellow captives. With discipline and moral authority, he works to preserve order and dignity while staying under the watchful eye of Colonel Wilhelm Visser, a seasoned Luftwaffe officer who controls the camp.
When a murder shakes the camp, a military trial begins and tension rises on both sides of the wire. Young Lieutenant Tommy Hart is drawn into events larger than he realizes, and is forced to confront questions of loyalty, courage and the price of serving a country at war. McNamara, meanwhile, has his own plans and is waiting for the right moment to act. The drama keeps its focus on military duty, psychological pressure and the choices made behind enemy lines.
Overview
Hart's War is a 2002 war drama directed by Gregory Hoblit and set within the confined world of a German POW camp. The story combines courtroom tension with the suspense of life under constant surveillance. Every decision carries consequences for the prisoners and for the men who answer to them.
The film looks at honor as a form of resistance and at how leadership survives in captivity. Its atmosphere is severe and suspenseful, with the camp's rigid hierarchy putting pressure on every conversation, accusation and act of defiance. Set against a wartime backdrop, it is a character-driven story about command, trust and the burden of choosing between individual survival and collective duty.
