Waterworld

Movie Waterworld (1995)

Description:

Story

After the polar ice caps melt, the Earth becomes a vast expanse of open water. Human communities survive on floating settlements, while rumors of solid ground remain the most valuable promise in a world with almost no land left. A solitary mutant seafarer is rescued from a floating island prison by a resourceful barmaid. Their escape draws a young girl named Enola into the voyage, binding the three travelers together as they search for safety and a future beyond the endless sea.

Enola carries a map to the fabled Dryland as a tattoo on her back, making her the key to a destination many believe may still exist. A ruthless pirate learns about the map and begins hunting the fugitives across the ocean. Their journey combines seafaring adventure, survival under extreme conditions, and a struggle against those who would seize the last hope of a drowned civilization.

Overview

Waterworld blends action, science fiction, and adventure into a post-apocalyptic voyage through a fully flooded Earth. The film imagines how people might build new communities, trade, fight, and preserve old dreams when the familiar continents have disappeared beneath the waves. Its setting creates a constant sense of exposure: every settlement is temporary, every supply matters, and the open ocean offers both freedom and danger.

Directed by Kevin Reynolds, the film places its characters in a conflict shaped by movement and pursuit. The seafarer prefers the isolation of life aboard his vessel, while the barmaid and Enola bring personal ties and a more urgent need for refuge. Their uneasy alliance gradually becomes the center of the story as the pirate closes in. Kevin Costner, Dennis Hopper, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Michael Jeter, and Tina Majorino lead the cast.
