Animation Sing 2 (2021)

Story

Buster Moon and his talented troupe are ready to take their biggest gamble yet: a brand-new stage spectacular in the dazzling Crystal Tower Theater of Redshore City. Their ambition quickly meets the guarded world of Jimmy Crystal, a ruthless entertainment mogul who demands an idea powerful enough to command the city’s attention. Buster’s answer is bold and almost impossible: bring the legendary lion rocker Clay Calloway back into the spotlight.

Once a celebrated performer, Clay has withdrawn from public life and keeps his distance from the stage, leaving Buster with a challenge far greater than assembling a cast. As the singers prepare for their most demanding production, they must find the courage to pursue a reluctant icon while holding their own dreams together. The result is a lively animated musical adventure filled with backstage pressure, comic mishaps, ambitious performers and the transforming power of music.

Overview

Directed by Garth Jennings, Sing 2 is a family animated film produced across France and the United States. Its story expands the world of the original with a larger venue, a more audacious show and a new emotional thread centered on artistic confidence and the possibility of returning to a passion left behind.

The film balances colorful spectacle with an ensemble-driven story. Buster’s determined leadership brings together singers with different personalities and goals, while the move to Redshore City raises the stakes around every rehearsal and performance. Beneath the bright production numbers, the narrative explores stage fright, creative risk and the bonds that help performers face an audience when success feels uncertain.

Cast and Characters

The voice ensemble features Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Seth MacFarlane, Scarlett Johansson and Bobby Cannavale. Together they bring to life the performers around Buster Moon, as well as the figures he encounters on his way to the Crystal Tower Theater, including the formidable Jimmy Crystal and the reclusive Clay Calloway.

The story brings together several contrasting forces: Buster’s optimistic drive, the singers’ shared commitment to their production, Jimmy Crystal’s hard-edged control of the entertainment business and Clay’s solitary life away from the spotlight. Together, these personalities give the film its comic energy, musical momentum and human warmth.
