Eduard Shim

E. Yu. Shim was born on August 23, 1930 in Leningrad. Mother - Anna Shmidt. My father died in 1930. During the war he was evacuated to the Kostroma region, grew up in an orphanage. From the age of 16, Shim worked, changing many occupations. "... A jack of all trades - a carpenter and a gardener, a turner and a driver." Upon returning to Leningrad, he studied at the School of Architecture and Art with a degree in Applied Artist, and since 1950 he worked at the Central Design Bureau No. 54. In 1952-1955 he served in the army. The last year of service is a literary officer in an army newspaper. After demobilization, he worked on the radio, wrote stories for newspapers and magazines Druzhba, Young Leningrad, Zvyozdochka, Kaliningrad, Murzilka, Bonfire, Periwinkle, Neva, and Friendly Guys. In 1959 he was admitted to the Union of Writers of the USSR, and soon moved to Moscow. Member of the editorial board of the journal "Banner" (1962-1971). Starting to print in 1949, Eduard Shim wrote mainly for children, mainly about nature - but he could successfully and fascinatingly tell, for example, about carpentry (The Wooden Book). Eduard Yuryevich posed questions about man’s attitude to nature (“Trail on the Wave” (1958), “Picket 200” (1963), “Spring Chores” (1964), “Water on the Pebbles” (1969). Among his stories and stories for adults: “Night at the end of the month”, “Vanya sings songs”, “When it goes out” and others. Eduard Shim is the author of the texts of a number of songs, in particular, the very popular in 1974 song "Galloped Wooden Horses", performed by Valentina Tolkunova. Shim is the author of literary scripts (together with V.V. Konetsky): “With his own hands” (1957), “Reliance” (1958). He also wrote several plays that were staged on the stages of various theaters. Two plays were co-authored with George Markov. He is the author of the scripts for the films Strogov, Salt of the Earth, Order: Do Not Open Fire, Order: Cross the Border, and others. “Who will translate the language of animals and birds into human language?” That's the kind of "translator" ... and the writer Eduard Shim became ...
