TV series Genghis Khan's Mongolia (2020)

This first episode charts Chinggis Khaan's childhood as an outcast living in harsh conditions on the barren landscape - before he rose up and united all of the nomadic communities across the steppe. Second episode explores the Mongols' expansion and conquest through the locality and into China; we see how spiritual beliefs in circulation and redistribution led to trade across thousands of miles. The legend of the Mongols in popular imagination of being bloodthirsty marauders has been obliterated by a more nuanced reality of Mongol life where people were rewarded for talent and not status.
