Born December 18, 1957 in Kursk in a family of engineers, he studied at a music school. After graduating from school in 1975, he tried to enroll in creative universities in Moscow, but he was not accepted in any of them. As a result, Igor Sklyar was among the students of the Leningrad Institute of Theater, Music and Cinematography, on the course of Lev Dodin. In the first year of the institute, he was an incorrigible troechnik; he defended his diploma as “excellent”. After graduating from LGITMiK in 1979, Igor Sklyar worked one season in Tomsk TYuZ, then returned to Kursk, served in the army. From 1983 to 2000 - in the troupe of the Leningrad Maly Drama Regional Theater.
