Story

On an August morning in 2023, children in northwest Pakistan begin their journey to school by climbing into a makeshift cable car suspended above a mountain pass. The routine crossing takes a terrifying turn when two cables snap, leaving a group of teenagers trapped roughly 900 feet above the ground. With the car hanging over the landscape and danger closing in, every moment carries the weight of a life-or-death ordeal.

Built around a real event that drew worldwide attention, Hanging by a Wire follows the unfolding crisis while keeping its focus on the young passengers caught in an extraordinary situation. The story draws tension from the height, the fragile construction of the cable car, and the uncertainty surrounding those inside it.

Overview

Directed by Mohammed Naqvi, this documentary thriller brings together the immediacy of real-life drama and the suspense of a rescue story. Its setting in the mountains of northwest Pakistan gives the film a strong sense of place, while the ordinary purpose of the journey makes the danger especially immediate. A short trip to school becomes an event watched far beyond the community where it began.

Produced across Great Britain, Pakistan, and the United States, the film presents a high-stakes human story rooted in a specific moment. Rather than relying on fictional invention, it draws its power from the precarious circumstances facing the passengers and the unanswered question of what will happen to them above the mountain pass.

Cast and Characters

The film centers on the children and teenagers travelling to school in the improvised cable car. Their presence gives the documentary its emotional focus, while the suspended vehicle and the surrounding mountain terrain shape the central conflict. No acting ensemble is identified, keeping attention on the real people involved in the crisis and the human stakes of their perilous journey.
