Story

Owen moves through suburban adolescence with the quiet uncertainty of someone searching for a place in the world. His routine takes an unexpected turn when a classmate introduces him to a mysterious late-night television show. Its episodes seem to open a passage toward a supernatural realm hidden beneath ordinary reality, drawing Owen deeper into an experience he cannot easily explain.

As the television’s pale glow begins to reshape the way he sees his surroundings, familiar places acquire an unsettling strangeness. The boundaries between the life Owen knows and the world suggested by the show start to weaken, leaving him to question what can be trusted. Blending coming-of-age drama with psychological horror, I Saw the TV Glow builds its tension through atmosphere, perception and the pull of a private obsession.

Overview

Directed by Jane Flannery Schoenbrun, this American horror drama focuses on adolescence, isolation and the powerful hold that stories can gain over the people who watch them. The television program at the center of the narrative functions as a doorway into mystery, while Owen’s suburban surroundings grow increasingly unfamiliar. Rather than relying on a straightforward threat, the film creates unease through uncertainty and the gradual disturbance of everyday reality.

The mood shifts between intimate teenage drama and supernatural unease, giving the story a dreamlike quality while keeping its emotional focus close to Owen. Its central tension comes from the contrast between an ordinary life and a vision that promises access to something more vivid, more dangerous and harder to leave behind.

Cast and Characters

Justice Smith leads the cast as Owen, the teenager whose understanding of reality begins to fracture after his encounter with the late-night show. Brigette Lundy-Paine portrays his classmate, the person who brings the mysterious program into his life and helps set the story’s central mystery in motion. The changing connection between these two young people, and the strange world revealed through the screen, form the emotional core of the film.
