Story
Los Angeles is under intense pressure after the Rodney King verdict, and the unrest reaches far beyond the streets. Mercer is fighting to rebuild his life while repairing his relationship with his son, carrying the strain of a city where anger and uncertainty have begun to shape every decision. Across town, another father and son see a dangerous opportunity in the turmoil. Their plan involves stealing catalytic converters from the factory where Mercer works, targeting the valuable platinum inside them.
As the heist takes shape, family tensions deepen on both sides. Mercer’s attempt to hold his life together becomes entangled with the ambitions of a pair willing to take serious risks, bringing two troubled households into the same volatile orbit. Crime, personal loyalty, and the fear of losing control drive the story toward a confrontation amid a city consumed by chaos.
Overview
1992 is a crime thriller set against one of the most turbulent periods in modern Los Angeles history. The film combines a tense criminal scheme with an intimate portrait of fathers and sons whose relationships are tested by pressure, disappointment, and difficult choices. Its setting gives the story a charged social atmosphere, while the intersecting family dramas keep the focus close to the people caught inside the unrest.
Directed by Ariel Vromen, the American production builds suspense through the collision of two worlds: a man trying to protect the fragile progress he has made and a pair of thieves pursuing a lucrative target. The result is a grounded thriller about family bonds, economic desperation, and the consequences that follow when private conflict meets public disorder.
Cast and Characters
Tyrese Gibson leads the cast as Mercer, a father determined to restore stability and reconnect with his son while events around him grow increasingly dangerous. Scott Eastwood, Ray Liotta, Oleg Taktarov, and Michael Beasley join him in a cast shaped around the film’s divided family relationships and criminal tensions.
The characters are connected by strained loyalties and competing needs. Mercer’s efforts to rebuild his family stand in contrast with the other father and son’s calculated pursuit of valuable materials, creating a conflict where personal history matters as much as the heist itself. Their choices give the thriller an emotional center beneath its crime-driven suspense.
