Animation Moana 2 (2024)

Story

Moana receives an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, urging her toward a new challenge beyond the familiar shores of Oceania. Joined by Maui and a new crew, she sets out across the far seas, following a path that leads into dangerous, long-lost waters. The voyage will demand courage, cooperation, and the navigational knowledge that has always connected Moana to her people.

As the expedition moves deeper into unknown territory, the crew faces an adventure unlike any Moana has encountered before. The story combines ocean exploration, ancestral guidance, comic group dynamics, and the constant pressure of a journey where every decision can shape the crew's chances of reaching its destination.

Overview

Moana 2 is an animated adventure with comedy, set against the expansive seascape of Oceania. Its central theme is wayfinding: the ability to read the world, trust inherited knowledge, and find direction when the route ahead has been lost to memory. The film brings Moana back to the open water alongside Maui while introducing a new group of companions whose different personalities add warmth and humor to the expedition.

Dana Ledoux Miller is credited as director of this Canadian and American production, which balances mythic ocean travel with a lively ensemble story. Ancient calls, remote waters, and the promise of a destination beyond known maps create an atmosphere of discovery while keeping the focus on the bond between a determined navigator, her legendary companion, and the crew relying on them.

Cast and Characters

Dwayne Johnson voices Maui, the powerful demigod who accompanies Moana on the voyage. Moana stands at the center of the story as a skilled wayfinder responding to the call of her ancestors and taking responsibility for a dangerous expedition. The new crew broadens the adventure with fresh relationships and contrasting personalities, while the surrounding ocean remains a formidable presence throughout the journey.

The voice cast also includes David Fane, Temuera Morrison, Rachel House, and Alan Tudyk. Together with Johnson, they bring the film's community of navigators, companions, and larger-than-life figures to the screen through an ensemble shaped by adventure, humor, and shared purpose.
