Movie Rumours (2024)

Story

During their journey to the annual G7 summit, the leaders of the world’s wealthiest liberal democracies lose their way in the woods. What begins as an unexpected interruption soon develops into a dangerous ordeal, leaving the group to contend with mounting peril while trying to prepare a provisional statement on a global crisis.

Separated from the formal setting of international diplomacy, the politicians must navigate unfamiliar surroundings and strained cooperation while carrying the weight of speaking for their nations. Their urgent task grows increasingly difficult as the wilderness turns the summit’s carefully managed proceedings into an unsettling struggle for control.

Overview

Blending horror with dark comedy, Rumours places global politics in an absurd and increasingly threatening situation. The film uses the contrast between polished diplomatic language and the unpredictability of the woods to create a tense, satirical atmosphere. Attempts to agree on a public response to a worldwide emergency take on a new urgency when the leaders themselves find their own safety at risk.

A Canadian and German production, the film draws its tension from an unusual collision of political ceremony, crisis management, and survival. Its ensemble setting allows the story to explore how authority and cooperation hold up when familiar institutions offer little protection.

Cast and Characters

The ensemble features Roy Dupuis, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Charles Dance, Denis Ménochet, and Rolando Ravello. Together, the cast portrays members of the group of world leaders at the center of the film’s diplomatic crisis and wilderness ordeal.

The characters are brought together by their official responsibilities, yet the pressure of isolation places their public roles under constant strain. Their efforts to produce a unified statement provide the story with its political framework, while the dangers surrounding them drive its horror and comic tension.
