Movie Thelma (2024)
Story
At 93, Thelma Post knows the rhythms of her daily life and the people she trusts. When a phone scammer impersonates her grandson and takes advantage of that trust, she refuses to leave the matter in someone elseâs hands. Determined to recover what was taken from her, Thelma sets out across the city on a difficult quest that tests her stamina, judgment, and resolve.
Her journey brings unexpected obstacles and plenty of uneasy encounters. The story keeps its focus on Thelmaâs growing independence and her effort to prove that age has not erased her ability to act. Comedy and adventure shape the pace, giving the search a warm, energetic tone while preserving the personal stakes at its center.
Overview
Thelma is a comedy adventure directed by Josh Margolin, produced in Switzerland and the United States. The film builds its premise around a familiar modern danger: a phone scam that turns family trust into a point of vulnerability. From there, the narrative opens into a citywide pursuit led by an unlikely and determined heroine.
The tone balances humorous situations with a grounded look at independence and dignity. June Squibb anchors the story with a character whose mission is both practical and deeply personal. The result is a character-driven adventure that finds its momentum in persistence and the courage to keep moving when others might expect retreat.
Cast and Characters
June Squibb plays the central role of Thelma Post, the determined woman who takes it upon herself to reclaim what the scammer took. Parker Posey, Clark Gregg, Malcolm McDowell, and Richard Roundtree round out the principal cast.
The ensemble supports a story built around family connections, trust, and the balance between protection and independence. Their presence gives the film room to explore Thelmaâs relationships as she navigates the city on her own terms.
