Yuri Temirkanov

Born December 10, 1938 in Nalchik. His father, Hatu Sagidovich, headed the Arts Committee of Kabardino-Balkaria. When the Great Patriotic War began, a group of art masters was evacuated from Moscow to Nalchik. Temirkanov became a musician, although his love of art is not limited to music. Another object of attraction was and remains painting. “If I had not become a musician,” he says, “I would probably become an artist.” It was the very first and, perhaps, the most serious hobby besides music. I used to draw decently in childhood and now, sometimes with some joy, I look through some of my children's drawings that have survived. I love the very smell of oil paints. Visiting art galleries wherever I happen to be, always gives me an inexplicable pleasure. ”
