He entered the theater studio at the Saratov Drama Theater, where from the age of 17 he began to enter the professional stage. And then Romanov went to Moscow and entered the studio of the Moscow Art Theater, on the course of Pilyavskaya and Karev. In 1959-1961 he studied at the theater studio at the Saratov Drama Theater named after K. Marx, was an actor of this theater. In 1966 he graduated from the Moscow Art Theater School. In 1966-1982 - actor of the Stanislavsky Moscow Drama Theater. In 1982-1985 - at the Taganka Drama and Comedy Theater (as part of a group directed by A. Vasiliev). Since 1990 - actor of the Moscow theater "Hermitage".
