Movie The Critic (2024)
Story
Jimmy Erskine has built his reputation as the most feared theatre critic of his era. His reviews are sharp, theatrical and merciless, and he lives as flamboyantly as he writes. Actors who fall short of his exacting standards can expect to be publicly dismantled, while Jimmy enjoys the influence that comes with deciding whose work deserves recognition.
His position becomes precarious when the owner of the Daily Chronicle dies and the newspaper passes to the late proprietor’s son. The new boss soon finds himself at odds with Jimmy, leaving the critic searching for a way to protect his power and influence. He turns to a struggling actress and proposes a dangerous bargain that draws all three into a tightening web of desire, blackmail and betrayal. As private ambitions collide with public reputations, the theatre world becomes the setting for a deadly struggle over power and control.
